Susan Baka

As a communications specialist and marketing strategist with wide experience in working
with corporations, financial institutions and government, the owner and president of Susan Baka pictureBay Communications & Marketing Inc. Susan Baka has directed the launch and execution of over 50 business web sites, publications, information services and events. Subject matter expertise includes international trade, small business, women's entrepreneurship, mentoring and diversity. Her work includes strategy development, writing, PR and marketing. And her firm was one of the first 10 in Canada to be certified by WBE Canada as a woman-owned enterprise in order to tap into the supply chains of corporations. 

Susan has travelled internationally to give presentations on global trade and small business, to participate in trade missions, and to share contacts, resources, and practical tips. Considered one of Canada's top authorities on entrepreneurship, especially for women, she presents webinars, is a prolific writer of articles, blogs and white papers, and is frequently consulted to share her contacts and expertise with the media, companies, and organizations. 

An active leader in business organizations and initiatives locally, nationally, and internationally, Susan is one of the founders of OWIT-Toronto and has served on its International Board since 2000. She has spearheaded countless communication initiatives as well as trade missions to Mexico, Australia and the U.S., and has mentored the start up of chapters in other countries, sharing Canadian best practices. Susan has had many years of involvement in setting up and running mentoring programs and consulting with organizations that are launching programs. 

Honours and Credentials
  • Winner, Ambassador Award from WBE Canada, 2012, for making a difference to the advancement of women in supplier diversity within Canada and winner Done Deals Award, 2011, in recognition of securing contracts with corporate and government clients as a certified woman-owned enterprise.
  • Appointed a member of the Canadian Minister of International Trade's Small and Medium Enterprise Advisory Board (2008-2011) to represent the interests of small business and women entrepreneurs.
  • Winner, The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) World of Difference 100 Award (Entrepreneurship category), 2009, which honours 100 women worldwide for contributing to women'€™s economic empowerment.
  • Named an honoree at the Global EXEC Women's International Women of Influence Awards in San Francisco in 2009.
  • Six-time nominee of RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards.
